Official poster for Jason Statham starrer Safe

The official poster for Jason Statham's upcoming action flick SAFE has come out of hiding. Click the image to see a much larger version.

SAFE stars Statham as an ex-New York cop who rescues a twelve-year-old-girl genius and must protect her from the Triads, the Russian Mafia, and corrupt New York officials who all want a code that she has memorized.

I remember when it starred Bruce Willis and was called MERCURY RISING. Just with less kicks to the head.

I guess this is a bonus for Statham, since the film is actually being released in theaters. It seems that for every one film that graces the big screen he has three more going straight to video.

I like Statham, but he's oversaturated the market so much, most of it being pure drivel, that it's hard to get excited about what he's got coming out next. It would be nice to see him take some risks and jump into some bolder material, but I guess when your core audience just wants to see you beat groups of people up with your shirt off you just gotta roll with it.

SAFE is directed by Boaz Yakin (REMEMBER THE TITANS) and also stars Anson Mount, Chris Sarandon, Reggie Lee and James Hong and will jump kick you in the face on April 27, 2012.

Extra Tidbit: Before you jump too far to Statham's defense, don't forget he starred in the Uwe Boll masterpiece In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, which was pure cinematic gold. Right?
