Pearce goes Dark

Guy Pearce, who has a short but memorable cameo in THE HURT LOCKER, has signed on to star in the upcoming horror flick DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK for Miramax. In the film, Pearce would play a husband (to the previously cast Katie Holmes) and father (to the newly cast Bailee Madison) who discovers his family is sharing their house with a bunch of demons.

Guillermo del Toro co-wrote the script for the film with Matthew Robbins and will produce the film. Troy Nixey, whose praises we have been singing here at JoBlo for years, will make his feature directorial debut on the flick. Filming on DARK is scheduled to take place next month in Australia so del Toro can be nearby while he works on THE HOBBIT.

I know a lot of the press will be snarky comment on Katie Holmes actually acting again, but I’d like to focus on the positives: Guy Pearce getting a leading role. The dude’s been criminally underappreciated so it’s nice to see him getting his due.
