Perry’s Rainbow

Lionsgate has tapped everyone’s favorite STAR TREK officer, Tyler Perry, to write, direct and produce an adaptation of a play for them. What project could they have that they believe suits him so thoroughly? That would be 1975’s “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf.”

The play is a string of 20 poems that tell stories of love, abandonment and abuse, all lived by black women. And of course, no one knows black women better than Tyler Perry, as he seems to spend most of his time as one. The only question now is if the project is going to be called TYLER PERRY’S FOR COLORED GIRLS WHO HAVE CONSIDERED SUICIDE WHEN THE RAINBOW IS ENUF, but I doubt Lionsgate will let him, considering it’s his first project with them (out of ten) that ISN’T based on his own original work.

Perry has two upcoming movies slated for released before RAINBOW gets made, TYLER PERRY’S I CAN DO BAD ALL BY MYSELF on Sept. 11th and TYLER PERRY’S WHY DID I GET MARRIED TOO? in April. Make fun of him and his self-titling productions all you want, but I said it before and I’ll say it again, practically every one of the man’s movies has opened number one at the box office. How many other directors/producers can you say that about?
