It's been a while since we've gotten word of any comics being adapted for the big or small screen, but today we've learned that Picturestart, the media company founded by former Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erik Feig, has snagged the rights to Matthew Rosenberg and Tyler Boss’ 2016 comic book series 4 KIDS WALK INTO A BANK. Why is this exciting news, you ask? Well, what if I told you that the series reads like something of a love child shared between filmmakers Wes Anderson and Guy Ritchie? I've got your attention now, don't I?

Picturestart is developing, producing, and co-financing the film based on the crime comedy series, with Matt Pizzolo of Black Mask Studios attached to produce and co-creators Rosenberg and Boss co-producing. Writing the adaptation will be DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD scribe Matthew Robinson, which will center on 11-year-old Paige and her weirdo friends. As the story unfolds, these attitudinal teens discover that they have a problem: a gang of ex-cons needs Paige's dad’s help on a heist… the problem is those ex-cons are morons. If Paige wants to keep her dad out of trouble, she’s going to have to pull off the heist herself.

Jessica Switch and Royce Reeves Darby are overseeing this project for Picturestart alongside Pizzolo for Black Mask.

Want to hear the best part? All five issues of 4 Kids Walk Into a Bank are available now for purchase. There's even a trade paperback edition that collects the whole caper in one go.

I had the pleasure of reading 4 Kids Walk Into a Bank back in 2016, and I'm happy to report that I loved every page of Boss and Rosenberg's quirky series. It's got everything you could want in a high-stakes crime comedy, including D & D references, bumbling bad guys, projectile vomit, car chases, and skinheads getting their teeth knocked down their throat. Classic!

We'll be sure to bring you more details as Picturestart's feature project for 4 KIDS WALK INTO A BANK develops.
