Pirates of the Caribbean 5 now has an official title

We all knew that PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 was going to have a long-winded title and boy did the filmmakers not disappoint! This is Infamous got the scoop right from KON-TIKI directors Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning that the next Captain Jack Sparrow adventure would carry the name PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES.

The subtitle comes from the Disneyland ride itself and evokes the supernatural elements that are standard in the films. The Jerry Bruckheimer produced blockbuster may see the return of Orlando Bloom as Will Turner and bring the series back to the roots of THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL.

Of all the PIRATES movies, the first is the only one I actually enjoyed with the rest feeling like a major cash grab. The most recent chapter, ON STRANGER TIDES, felt like a script forced to fit the PIRATES mold. I enjoy Johnny Depp‘s performance as much as anyone, but without a well-rounded screenplay and direction, they end up feeling like cookie cutter studio tent-poles.

Here’s hoping that the guys behind KON-TIKI can bring some of that talent to this bloated franchise. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES opens July 10, 2015.
