Earlier this year we say the first film from Robert Downey Jr.’s Team Downey, THE JUDGE. Now another film under the banner is moving ahead as screenwriter and adventure aficionado Terry Rossio (the first three PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movies) is set to pen the script for the Warner Bros. treasure hunt film YUCATAN. The movie is based on an original idea by legendary actor Steve McQueen and is being developed for Downey Jr. to star.

Back in the 1960s McQueen was developing YUCATAN for himself and after his death a 1700-page treatment (Ed. Note: Damn!) for the film was discovered.  The story follows a renegade salvage expert on a quest to find a Mayan treasure in the Yucatan Peninsula.  Deadline reports that Rossio and Downey Jr. are using the original premise as a jumping off point for “a mind-bending adventure story.”

YUCATAN sounds like an interesting project; the story of how the movie came to be is almost worthy of its own adaptation I would think. We do need some worthwhile adventure movies though, I’m not a fan of the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN and every other adventure movie seems to want to tread the same water they already did (several times in fact). Let’s hope this one stays afloat and RDJ and Rossio put together something fresh and worthy, make McQueen proud!

Up next for the charismatic Downey Jr. is CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and for Team Downey they are developing a horror-comedy called CLOAKED, the long talked about Pinocchio movie, Perry Mason, and SHERLOCK HOLMES 3 which I’m most excited about. He’s going to be busy for a while, lucky us.

What RDJ movie are you most looking forward to?
