Pokemon: Detective Pikachu chooses July & August dates for its home release

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Hey there, all of you Pokemon trainers! Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have dropped the very best news today by declaring that POKEMON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU is set to arrive on 4K UHD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD Special Edition and Digital! What's more is that for a limited time only, the 4K UHD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD Special Edition will include a special Pokémon Trading Card Game card. Just think, you could flash that baby in front of all your Pokemon trainer friends, or become the best aunt or uncle ever by gifting it to your niece or nephew. The possibilities are … well, they're not endless, but let's just say that carrying special edition cards in your deck is the way pros unleash all their favorite pocket monsters.

Those of you who're looking to catch the movie early can figuratively throw a Pokeball at the Digital release of the film on July 23, with the 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD versions set for an August 6 debut.

Here's the official plot synopsis for director ROb Letterman's POKEMON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU:

When detective Harry Goodman goes missing, his son Tim (Justice Smith) and Harry’s former Pokémon partner Detective Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds) join forces to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together on an epic adventure through Ryme City, they uncover a shocking plot that could destroy the whole Pokémon universe.

When the 4K HD Blu-ray of POKEMON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU lands, this version will dramatically expand the film's color palette and contrast range. The 4K HD Blu-ray disc will also feature a Dolby Atmos soundtrack remixed specifically for your home entertainment system, prompting the audio to move anywhere in the room, including overhead. That being said, to experience Dolby Atmos at home, a Dolby Atmos enabled AV receiver and additional speakers are required, or a Dolby Atmos enabled sound bar. Oh, but don't worry, this isn't a total "womp womp" situation. The Dolby Atmos soundtrack will still play on whatever system you've got, it just won't sound as dynamic unless you've got Dolby's stellar sound equipment. In other words, you might want to hold off on buying more Pokemon Booster Packs and save your scratch for a killer Dolby sound system.

Furthermore, POKEMON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU will also be available on Movies Anywhere. Using the free Movies Anywhere app and website, consumers can access all their eligible movies by connecting their Movies Anywhere account with their participating digital retailer accounts.
