Quentin Tarantino puts out his Top Ten Movies of 2013 (so far)

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The enigmatic DJANGO UNCHAINED director, Quentin Tarantino, has released his Top Ten movies of 2013 (so far) and it's the usual ecclectic and interesting mix as he's delivered in past years. Some of his selections aren't quite that surprising, with flicks like GRAVITY, BEFORE MIDNIGHT, BLUE JASMINE, and even THIS IS THE END, fitting squarely within the bounds of what you might think he'd like. The surprises are interesting, especially with THE LONE RANGER and KICK-ASS 2, but when you really think about it, they're pretty consistent with his tastes. A hyper-violent comic book movie with a lot of colorful profanity and  a vastly misunderstood and loathed western? Sounds right up Tarantino's alley.

Here's the full roster:

1.  AFTERNOON DELIGHT (Jill Soloway)
2.  BEFORE MIDNIGHT (Richard Linklater)
3.  BLUE JASMINE (Woody Allen)
4.  THE CONJURING (James Wan)
5.  DRINKING BUDDIES (Joe Swanberg)
6.  FRANCES HA (Noah Baumbach)
7.  GRAVITY (Alfonso Cuarón)
8.  KICK-ASS 2 (Jeff Wadlow)
9.  THE LONE RANGER (Gore Verbinski)
10.  THIS IS THE END (Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg)

It's to note that these are listed in alphabetical order, so this may not be the actual ranking of best to worst, but merely an alphabetized list of favorites. I always find it compelling to hear what other filmmakers enjoy, as oftentimes they aren't quite as vocal about their tastes, either out of fear or respect for their peers.

What do you think about Tarantino's list so far?
