Quentin Tarantino returns to acting for a role in Franco Nero’s next western

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Back when we had no idea what Quentin Tarantino’s next project would be, we heard from legendary spaghetti western star Franco Nero that he would be working with Tarantino on his next project. Now that DJANGO UNCHAINED has been announced and features a cast that includes Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson, Nero’s name is nowhere to be found. But that doesn’t mean that he and Tarantino aren’t teaming up.

According to Nero, Tarantino has agreed to make an appearance in the actor’s upcoming film THE ANGEL, THE BRUTE AND THE WISE. So instead of Nero acting in a Tarantino directed film, we’ll get the exact opposite.

Nero told Box Office Magazine, “I said ‘Quentin, we are going to do a western. It would be an homage to Sergio Leone and John Huston, the director that discovered me, and would you be so kind to play a cameo?’ And he said…‘Oh, great, so I can come with Robert Rodriguez and my friends to play them?’ I said, yeah! That would be great!”

So not only do you get Tarantino acting, you also get Robert Rodriguez and presumably some of Tarantino’s other friends (paging Eli Roth). Tarantino and Friends would star as a trio of bandits killed off in a number of creative ways and the role is described more as an extended cameo than a full on supporting role.

It’s unclear when Nero plans to shoot his movie to accommodate Tarantino who is no doubt busy prepping DJANGO. But like it or not, we’ll get to see Tarantino on the big-screen again.
