Rhys Ifans will be playing the Lizard in Marc Webb’s Spider-Man

The villain has been revealed!

The Wrap’s Deal Central has learned that Rhys Ifans will be playing the role of Dr. Curt Connors also known as the Lizard.

Originally it was thought that in Sam Raimi’s SPIDER-MAN that Dylan Baker would eventually transform into the Lizard man. Sadly, this never happened.

Now, Ifans will be the one obsessed with reptilian regeneration. Connors was a great surgeon who was sent off to war. He performed emergency battlefield surgery on wounded GIs until his right arm was badly injured in a blast and had to be amputated. After this incident, Connors eventually got comfortable in civilian life again and became a research technologist. In his studies on reptilian limb regeneration, the doc gets deep into reptile biology. With the help of an old war friend he develops a serum developed from reptilian DNA. After testing the serum on bunnies he then decides to take it himself. His arm does grow back, but unfortunately he turns into a powerful reptilian humanoid monster.

During a trip to Florida, Spidey investigates the reports of Lizard in the newspaper. He later uses Connors’ notes to create an antidote restoring him back to his old self. However, this does not last for long.

Everyone happy with this villain choice/pairing?
