Richard Linklater’s Boyhood finally gets a release date

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

One of the most interesting film projects I've been following (for a very long time) is Richard Linklater's BOYHOOD. The director has been working on the movie since 2002, and it follows a family and what they experience during twelve years of their lives. BOYHOOD stars Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette, Ellar Coltrane and Lorelei Linklater, and reviews so far have been outstanding (you can read ours from Sundance here.)

Now we know when we will be able to check out this fascinating sounding movie. IFC Films has announced BOYHOOD will be in theaters on July 11th, 2014. You can check out the press release below.

IFC Films announced today that Richard Linklater’s BOYHOOD will open in US theaters on July 11. With a screenplay by Linklater, the film stars Ellar Coltrane, Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette and Lorelei Linklater. BOYHOOD had its world premiere at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 2014 Berlin International Film Festival.

Filmed over short periods from 2002 to 2013, BOYHOOD is a groundbreaking cinematic experience covering 12 years in the life of a family. At the center is Mason, who with his sister Samantha, is taken on an emotional and transcendent journey through the years, from childhood to adulthood.

While I'm not sure if BOYHOOD will end up being a mainstream hit, I know there are some who are very eager to see Linklater's new movie, and I think once more people learn about the film, they're going to want to check it out for themselves.
