When Christopher Nolan makes a movie, it's an event; there aren't many other director's out there who are given the creative freedom (not to mention seemingly unlimited budgets) that Nolan is, and joining the ensemble cast of one of his movies seems to be a point of pride among some. Robert Pattinson will next be seen in Christopher Nolan's  TENET alongside John David Washington, but on his very first day of filming on the Nolan film, Pattinson received news that he'd won an arguably bigger role – Batman.

While speaking with Total Film (via Games Radar), Robert Pattinson said that he discovered that he would be playing Bruce Wayne/Batman in Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN on "the morning of the first day" of filming TENET. "It was kind of insane. It was a very, very intense weekend. That was a crazy way to start Chris’ film," Pattinson said with a laugh. "I think I was doing the screen test, as well, on the Saturday before I started." Production on THE BATMAN was underway for several weeks before the spread of COVID-19 forced Warner Bros. to pull the plug for the safety of their cast and crew. While Pattinson said that they had "gotten into a really good rhythm" on the film, he's not too broken up about the forced hiatus.

But, again, it’s a hard movie. I mean, obviously it’s Batman, so it’s kind of nice. I basically went straight from Chris [Nolan’s] movie into that. And, yeah, I was feeling a little bit loopy anyway. So having some time off is not the worst thing in the world. But hopefully it’ll be sooner rather than later that everything is hopefully in a better place.

In addition toRobert Pattinson, THE BATMAN also stars Zoë Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Catwoman, Paul Dano (SWISS ARMY MAN) as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright (NO TIME TO DIE) as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis (STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI) as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro (The Night Of) as Carmine Falcone, Colin Farrell (THE GENTLEMEN) as Penguin, and Peter Sarsgaard (THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN) as DA Gil Colson. THE BATMAN is slated to hit theaters on October 1, 2021, and Christopher Nolan's TENET is set for a July 17, 2020 release.
