Ron Howard confirms discussions about Willow sequel

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Sure, WILLOW may not be destined to go down as one of the great fantasy films of all-time, but I've always loved it. In fact, my family even named our dog after Willow's wife (Kaiya). Starring Warwick Davis as Willow, the film finds the young farmer coming across Elora Danan, an infant who is prophesied to bring about the downfall of the evil Queen Bavmorda. Teaming up with the mercenary swordsman Madmartigan (Val Kilmer), Willow attempts to keep Elora from the clutches of Bavmorda's legions. There's magic, creatures, excitement, and the whole film is just a lot of fun. Every so often talk of a sequel to WILLOW emerges, but Ron Howard has now added a little more fuel to that particular fire.

While speaking with Comic Book, the SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY director, who also helmed WILLOW, confirmed that there has been a little talk of a sequel.

I don't want to give away too much, but there is a little talk of Willow. We wouldn't call it Willow 2, I think it would focus a lot on Elora Danan, although Willow would have to be significantly involved.

Ron Howard added that his experiences on WILLOW wound up informing some of his choices on SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY. "I thought about that movie a lot as I was working on Solo because there are certain scenes, especially around some of the Madmartigan stuff, was reminiscent of a character with that kind of swagger and bravado," Howard said, later taking to Twitter to once again confirm that a sequel isn't quite as far-fetched as we thought.

Would you be down for a sequel to WILLOW?
