Rumor: Jessica Chastain offered lead role in Mission Impossible 5

Tom Cruise will be back for MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5 with his JACK REACHER director Christopher McQuarrie, and Schmoes Know has learned the filmmakers may be eyeing Jessica Chastain for a starring role in their film. There aren't many details on what her role might be in the fifth MISSION IMPOSSIBLE flick, but the site's source says "the offer is out to Miss Chastain to become Tom Cruise’s right hand woman," so it's probably as an IMF agent, and not as a love interest.

There's obviously a high demand for the talented actress, and we're going to be seeing a lot of Jessica Chastain in the upcoming months. Her ELEANOR RIGBY will be shown at this year's Cannes Film Festival, and she has three other films hitting theaters this year with INTERSTELLAR, MISS JULIE and A MOST VIOLENT YEAR. Chastain will also appear in Guillermo Del Toro's CRIMSON PEAK, and yesterday it was reported she's being considered to play Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik's BLONDE as well.

While I enjoyed MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL, I didn't love it like most people (MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 3 is still my favorite from the franchise), however I'm definitely game for another adventure with Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt. MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5 won't be in theaters until 2015, but there will likely be some more details and news on the Christopher McQuarrie film in the next few months.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5 will open on December 25th, 2015.
