Sam and Mac have Soul

Samuel L. Jackson and Bernie Mac have signed on to star in the Dimension comedy SOUL MEN based on a concept Mac and his manager cooked up. The two actors would play former backup singers to a famed R&B/soul group. They haven’t spoken in years but reunite to perform a tribute to their lead singer who recently died. No director is attached to the film yet but Dimension looks to add one within the next few weeks to keep the shooting date of January 15th. The studio is currently negotiating for the rights to the Stax Records library, which would include hits from Booker T and the MGs, Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding and Sam & Dave. The project is a reunion of sorts for Mac and writers Robert Ramsey and Matthew Stone, who previously worked together on the Universal comedy LIFE. Both Mac and Jackson will do their own singing and dancing in the film. Jackson will begin filming after wrapping THE SPIRIT, which begins shooting this October. Mac recently finished filming OLD DOGS, the Disney “comedy” starring John Travolta and Robin Williams.
