Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver will appear in The Avengers 2…unless the script changes

The Avengers

Last week at the IRON MAN 3 premiere Joss Whedon teased that a brother-sister duo would be joining THE AVENGERS 2 and it was assumed that the director was talking about the twins Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. The newest issue of Entertainment Weekly is all about IRON MAN 3 and the rest of Marvel's Phase 2 films, and a source for EW has confirmed that the twins will appear in the sequel. But we all know that sources aren't always right so EW asked Marvel Studio's Kevin Feige if the rumors were true. His response?

I’m not confirming or denying. The draft could change six months from now.

Which means….yeah they're in it. At least for now.

Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver

The addition of Wanda and Pietro Maximoff is big for a couple of reasons. As fellow editor Paul Shirey pointed out when it was first rumored, since they are mutants how will their powers going to be explained? The film rights to these characters are shared with FOX so will this open the door for other characters to be able to show up in Marvel's film universe, even if they don't own the rights to them 100%?

Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are primarily known for working with/against the X-Men but in the comics (and this is interesting because it could be what is used in THE AVENGERS 2 or 3…oh and be warned it's kind of a spoiler) the siblings at one point joined the Avengers after the founding members took a leave of absence and a new team was formed consisting of the duo, Captain America and Hawkeye. Could Whedon possibly be adding pieces just in case certain key actors don't want to return or only want to be a part of the film in a limited capacity? Does he plan on killing off a couple of heroes so that a new team has to be formed? SO. MANY. QUESTIONS.

Marvel's Phase 2 kicks off when IRON MAN 3 hits theaters TOMORROW, then it's on to THOR: THE DARK WORLD on November 8th, 2013, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER on April 4th, 2014, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY on August 1st, 2014 and THE AVENGERS 2 on May 1st, 2015.
