See the "birth" of The Flash in the mid-season finale of CW's Arrow

As our favorite shows wrap up for the year in their mid-season finales, one of them has left fans with a wonderful tease of the future. Last night's episode of Arrow featured the "birth" of The Flash as Barry Allen (played by Grant Gustin) is literally shocked into his origin as the speedy superhero. Although we won't see the actual in-costume Flash until his pilot debuts next fall, there's still a remote possibility we'll see him in some form in episode 20 of Arrow, but don't put any money on it. The origin of Flash isn't as well known to most folks, but it's still an iconic transformation, which is captured nicely here.

Take a look:

Arrow has ramped up its comic book ties in a big way, even since season one, and continues to do some serious universe building. They've had villains like Deadshot, Deathstroke (Slade Wilson), Nyssa Al Ghul (daughter of Ra's), and heroes like The Huntress, Black Canary, and Bronze Tiger, amongst many others with more likely on the way. DC/CW has seemingly been the leader of the comic-book TV show for a while now and will need to maintain that edge as Marvel gears up for it's big "TV" push on Netflix.

Arrow returns on January 15, 2014.
