Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam gets Rim job from Guillermo del Toro

Conflicted “Sons of Anarchy” club VP Charlie Hunnam knows about riding machines, but he’ll really step it up when he goes from motorcycles to monster-fighting mechs in filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s PACIFIC RIM.

The hunky Brit (who seemed to be an early fan fave for THOR) will take the lead in the big-budget action/sci-fi flick, which involves massive city-demolishing creatures that emerge from an undersea dimensional rift in the Pacific. Several affected countries team up to battle the threat with huge mechanized combat units, each of which require a pair of specially trained pilots.

Del Toro moved on to Relativity’s kaiju-packed FX epic when plans for the sticky horrors of his adaptation of HP Lovecraft’s AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS fell apart at Universal.

The project will likely feature other attractive cast members of varying ethnicity to populate the international task force assigned with battling the towering beasts. Ron Perlman will play a grizzled military veteran (okay, that’s complete speculation, but no less probable).

Hunnam is working on the crime drama BLACKBIRD with Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde before hopping back on the hog for the fourth season of “Sons”.
