Fast-forward to today, to when we find BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter announcing that the long-gestating sequel to 1991's BILL & TED'S BOGUS JOURNEY has been given an Aug. 21, 2020 release date! * busts out the air guitar and hammers thusly *

The highly-anticipated adventure also got an official synopsis:

Following 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and 1991’s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, the stakes are higher than ever for William “Bill” S. Preston Esq. (Winter) and Theodore “Ted” Logan (Reeves). Yet to fulfill their rock and roll destiny, the now middle-aged best friends set out on a new adventure, when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe.  Along the way, they will be helped by their families, old friends and a few music legends.

Helming Bill and Ted's next exceptional expedition is GALAXY QUEST and RED 2 director Dean Parisot, who will shoot from a screenplay written by original Bill & Ted scribes Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon. Production is expected to kick into high gear in New Orleans this summer, with Scott Kroopf, Alex Lebovici and Steve Ponce producing via Hammerstone Studios. Steven Soderbergh will executive producing alongside R. Scott Reid, John Ryan Jr., Scott Fischer and John Santilli.
