The children of the Avatar sequels take the stage in new photo

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

By the time AVATAR 2 comes out in 2020 it will have been 11 years since the first film came out. This leaves a lot of time for our two heroes/lovers – Jake Sully and Neytiri (Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana) – to make some cat-like, blue Na’vi babies to run around the forest with. Those children will play a big role in the upcoming films, and now we got the first look at the young whipper-snaps…but some imagination is required.

Take a look here are the list of the actors and their characters:

L-R: Britain Dalton (Lo'ak of the Sully Family), Filip Geljo (Aonung of the Metkayina Clan), Jamie Flatters (Neteyam of the Sully Family), Bailey Bass (Tsireya of the Metkayina Clan), Trinity Bliss (Tuktirey of the Sully Family), Jack Champion (Javier "Spider" Socorro), and Duane Evans Jr (Rotxo of the Metkayina Clan).

And here are some descriptions about the characters:

The Sully Family
JAMIE FLATTERS: Neteyam (neh-tay'-ahm) Jake and Neytiri's first born son.
BRITAIN DALTON: Lo'ak (loh' ahk) Lo'ak is Jake and Neytiri's second born.
TRINITY BLISS: Tuktirey: (took-tee'-ray) She goes mostly by "Tuk" (rhymes with "nuke"). She is youngest of the Sully family.

Of the Metkayina Clan
BAILEY BASS: Tsireya (see-ray'-ah) "Reya" She is a graceful and strong free-diver – the young Neytiri of the ocean.
FILIP GELJO: Aonung (aw-nung') Young male hunter/free-diver son the Olo'eyktan of Metkayina Clan.
DUANE EVANS JR.: Rotxo (row'-txoh) Young male hunter/free-diver of the Metkayina.

Former Hell's Gate Adolescent
JACK CHAMPION: Javier "Spider" Socorro – A human teenager, born at Hell's Gate but prefers his time in the Pandoran rainforest more than the asphalt of Hell's Gate.

In the film the kids will, of course, be in CGI, so you have to get a little creative when picturing them in the final product. Not all the kids belong to Jake and Neytiri, as the photo also includes children from an underwater tribe called the Metkayina. The only one who will not be CG is the young Javier “Spider” Socorro, a human teen who is “born at the Hell’s Gate military complex, a crucial location in the first film.” Producer Jon Landau spoke to having the youthful element in the new films, and how important these young characters will be in all the movies (via EW):

“We never had this youthful element before, and that brings a different kind of energy to the film. They represent the future generation of Pandora and play a very significant role — not just in this movie but throughout all the movies.”

Yesterday it was revealed the movies will cost a combined total of well over $1 billion to make, which sounds like a lot, but given that the first movie made $2.7 billion alone, that total shouldn’t be hard to recoup. What can we say, turning little kids into blue space-felines is pricey work.

After having waited so long for these movies the wait better be worth it. Fans waited years for STAR WARS EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE, only to have to suffer through a young Anakin Skywalker. Hopefully, we don’t have to suffer through such a scenario again, and that these kids really are as important as Landau says they are. I only want to know if the kids will be near the same size as their nine-foot-tall adult parents. If so, that is very…odd to think about.

The first of the AVATAR sequels arrives December 2020.
