Superstore is ready to close up shop. It has been announced that the NBC comedy will conclude with season six.

This means that its current season will be its last hurrah after an impressive run of 113 episodes. The workplace comedy begins airing new episodes in 2021. Lisa Katz, president of scripted content at NBC, had this to say about the show ending:

"Superstore has always been a signature NBC series that has never failed to make us laugh while also thoughtfully examining important issues people care deeply about. This has been an amazing group of writers, producers, actors and crew to work with and we are incredibly grateful for all their contributions. This show will forever hold its place among the top workplace comedies for which we have a cherished history."

News of Superstore ending comes on the heels of the departure of lead actress America Ferrera. She had been slated to exit the show at the end of last season, but after the coronavirus pandemic shut down production in March, she agreed to return for the first two episodes of this season to close out her character's story.

Superstore follows a group of employees working at "Cloud 9". store number 1217, a fictional big-box store in St. Louis. Missouri. In addition to Ferrera, the cast also includes Ben Feldman, Colton Dunn, Nico Santos, Nichole Sakura, Mark McKinney, and Kaliko Kauahi. The series will return with a final run of 11 more episodes beginning Thursday, January 14, 2021, at 8:30 PM. The series finale will air sometime in the spring of 2021.
