The Magicians, SYFY, cancelled

Today shall henceforth be known as 'the day the magic died' among fans of THE MAGICIANS, for SYFY has announced that the fantasy television series will come to an end after its fifth season. The much-beloved series is an adaptation of Lev Grossman's novels revolving around Quentin Coldwater, a would-be magician who discovers that the magical world from his favorite childhood books is indeed real and poses a threat to all from his world as well as the enchanted one beyond the veil.

The show hails from showrunners John McNamara and Sera Gamble, who as part of a passionate move purchased the rights to three of Grossman's novels with their own money, then wrote the pilot, and sold the show to SYFY. Talk about hustle and vision!

SYFY announced the show's cancellation on Tuesday, by way of the following statement:

"The Magicians has been a part of our SYFY family for five fantastic seasons," the network said in a statement. "As we near the end of this journey, we want to thank John McNamara, Sera Gamble, Henry Alonso Myers, Lev Grossman, and our entire brilliant cast, crew, writers, and directors for their beautiful creation. But most of all, we thank the fans for their tremendous support and passion. Because of you, magic will be in our hearts forever.”

Sadly for fans of the series, THE MAGICIANS will come to an end with the fifth season's thirteenth episode. That said, there is a light in all this darkness after all. It's been said that as the show was wrapping production last year, that the final episode of Season 5 was written so that it could potentially serve as a series finale.

Thankfully, SYFY is still in the business of bringing viewers original content, and is poised to do so when the network introduces the upcoming VAGRANT QUEEN, as well as RESIDENT ALIEN, starring Alan Tudyk and Linda Hamilton. Additionally, a series adaptation of CHILD'S PLAY, titled CHUCKY, is also on the way. And finally, a newly-announced DAY OF THE DEAD series is also looking to shamble onto the sci-fi and fantasy-focused outlet.
