Terminator: Date Fate targeting a $125M worldwide weekend opening!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Lock your phase plasma rifles, push your hydraulic presses, and get your dancing shoes on for Tech Noir, as TERMINATOR: DARK FATE is set to explode its way into theaters this Friday. And if the latest projections are correct, DARK FATE is set to terminate the competition this weekend.

Current estimates project the Linda Hamilton led vehicle to take in upwards of $40 million plus this weekend with another $80 to $85 million coming courtesy of offshore territories including China. That would put TERMINATOR: DARK FATE somewhere in the $125 million range, which would decimate the last film in the franchise, TERMINATOR: GENISYS. The Alan Taylor directed fifth installment raked in just over $100 million worldwide in its opening weekend, on its way to a $440.6 million total overall. While Taylor's film saw the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger to his iconic role, it was a dud with critics and currently holds a 27% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Even if TERMINATOR: DARK FATE performs well at the box office this weekend, its still got a long road to hoe. Producer James Cameron's latest edition, which promises to be the REAL sequel to TERMINATOR 2; JUDGMENT DAY, cost a reported $185 million to make, almost $30 million more than the last film. The flick will potentially be the start of a new trilogy, however the same thing was said about TERMINATOR: GENISYS so don't hold your breath.

Joblo's own JimmyO got a chance to catch the film just last week and had high praise for the movie, citing Linda Hamilton's performance as a strong point. While I've been fooled several times now with the franchise, I'm just a sucker for the TERMINATOR films so I'll definitely be checking DARK FATE out this weekend. Alongside Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger, TERMINATOR: DARK FATE stars Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes, and Gabriel Luna.

What about you guys? Are you planning on seeing TERMINATOR: DARK FATE in the theater? Have you given up on the franchise? Are you intrigued to find out why Ah-nuld's terminator is named Carl in this movie? Sound off in the comments below!
