Jason Momoa Suki Waterhouse The Bad Batch

After being dumped in a Texas wasteland which has been fenced off from civilized society, Arlen (Suki Waterhouse) must deal with a lawless land full of all the "undesirables" which the United States has abandoned there, including a savage band of cannibals. Ruh oh. Writer/director Ana Lily Amirpour's follow-up to A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT also stars Jason Momoa, Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey, Giovanni Ribisi and Diego Luna. That's certainly one heck of an interesting cast and the first teaser trailer for THE BAD BATCH has been released which gives us a glimpse at what we're in for. Spoiler alert, it's weird.

"Here's the thing. Being good or bad, mostly depends on who you're standing next to."

THE BAD BATCH screened at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and our own Chris Bumbray was able to catch it, but unfortunately he wasn't overly impressed with Amirpour's sophomore effort, calling it "one of the few real disappointments of the festival." There were several elements which Bumbray enjoyed, particularly the "terrific" opening, but ultimately he found THE BAD BATCH is be reminiscent of a Nicolas Winding Refn movie, "with the emphasis of style over substance."

The official synopsis for THE BAD BATCH:

THE BAD BATCH follows Arlen (Waterhouse) as she is unceremoniously dumped in a Texas wasteland fenced off from civilized society. While trying to orient her unforgiving environment, she is captured by a savage band of cannibals and quickly realizes she'll have to fight her way through her new reality. As Arlen adjusts to life in 'the bad batch' she discovers that being good or bad mostly depends on who you're standing next to.

THE BAD BATCH will hit theaters on June 23, 2017.
