Sony’s genre division Screen Gems is looking to remake the classic Lawrence Kasdan dramedy THE BIG CHILL. Except it won’t be called THE BIG CHILL. And it will be modernized. And it will feature an all-black cast. But it will feature seven 30-somethings reuiniting for the funeral of a friend and start singing and copulating to old-school classics. The Motown era jams could very well be replaced with early G-funk hip-hop classics like “The Chronic,” which would please me immensely. So far the only cast member signed on to star is Regina King (one of the best examples of a female “That Guy” actor) who will also produce. I hope producers resist the temptation to also cast Morris Chestnut. As you might expect, Kasdan has nothing to do with this remake.
