The classic character reinvention craze strikes the story of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer

Huck and TomSeems like today is Bring A New Take To A Classic Novel Day, first with 1984 and now with the wild adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.  Paramount is the studio that has set up the project, buying a spec script from one Andy Burg called HUCK that focuses on Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn as adults while simultaneously introducing "supernatural elements to the script."  In fact, the new project is pecifically being described as "in the vein of SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN.

HUCK is being shepherded by Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark, producers behind RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and Tom Cruise's upcoming movie OBLIVION.  Matt Lopez, screenwriter on THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE and RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN, will produce along side them.

So what do you think? Is Mark Twain turning in his grave? The friendship and adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn extend through four books in total, and there's no word if this is a wholly original story or some adapted amalgamation of the different books.  For some reason I'm having visions of a Hardy Boys/Scooby Doo kind of movie...
