After a whole decade Michael Bay and his team are still finding ways to pit giant robots against apocalyptic conditions, all while fitting very sweaty people in the mix. THE LAST KNIGHT looks to be taking the destruction of our planet to a whole new level, making the invasion of in INDEPENDENCE DAY look like a rat infestation. The new trailer is filled with spaceships the size of continents, and Optimus Prime both messing fools up and getting messed up himself. These are very rough times for him.
The medieval angle aside, LAST KNIGHT does seem to be diverting a bit from the usual TRANSOFORMERS formula. Sure, there's an invading army of aliens, earth in danger, a gorgeous woman in glasses to hint she's a scientist of some kind. But the idea that Prime may not be as keen on saving the world this time is an interesting aspect to think about, even if in the end the movie will still be about insane amounts of destruction. Okay, so maybe it is sticking to formula.
TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT arrives June 23.
