The first trailer for Smashed featuring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul is brief yet powerful

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

We have been hearing a lot about SMASHED and the buzz (no pun intended) surrounding the lead performances from Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul. Now, we have our first look at the trailer.

There is nothing glamorous about this trailer. Winstead looks completely wrecked and I imagine that this will be a difficult spiral to witness on the big screen. Aaron Paul looks like Jesse from BREAKING BAD. Unless he grows his hair back, it will be very difficult for me to not associate him with that role.

Either way, this looks like a damn good movie. Check out the trailer.

Plot: Kate and Charlie like to have a good time. Their marriage thrives on a shared fondness for music, laughter… and getting smashed. When Kate’s partying spirals into hard-core asocial behavior, compromising her job as an elementary schoolteacher, something’s got to give. But change isn’t exactly a cakewalk. Sobriety means she will have to confront the lies she’s been spinning at work, her troubling relationship with her mother, and the nature of her bond with Charlie.

Chris Bumbray reviewed SMASHED at Sundance this year and he said that this is the film that will put Mary Elizabeth Winstead on the map, calling her performance “an absolute tour-de-force for star Mary Elizabeth-Winstead, whose performance as a damaged addict struck me as being even better than Anne Hathaway’s lauded turn in the similar RACHEL GETTING MARRIED.” Judging from this trailer, he seemed to be right on the money.

Smashed stars Aaron Paul, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Nick Offerman and Octavia Spencer. It will open in theaters on October 12.
