The Juggernaut would have replaced Quicksilver in Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men

Just recently we learned that Matthew Vaughn's script treatment of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST included two Wolverines taking up the screen simultaneously. I'm not sure how that would have worked out, especially if they had someone else playing the second Wolverine, but that wasn't the only major change in characters. Originally, the Juggernaut would have been the mutant to break Magneto out of his cell in a scene that's not quite as graceful as Quicksilver's iteration.

Matthew Vaughn on how the prison break scene would have gone down:

I had Juggernaut being thrown out of a plane at 20,000 feet and using his head to go down a hole to get to the bottom of [The White House]. I had Beast saying, ‘I have a plan,’ and him replying, ‘What’s the plan? What’s the plan?’, and they go higher and higher [in a plane] and Beast was going to go, ‘This is it!’ and chuck him out the window. Then he goes smashing through [The White House] and Magneto goes, ‘Who the f*ck are you?’ I would have made the movie worse. The Quicksilver one was better.

I don't think there's anyone who's upset with Bryan Singer taking over the reigns for Vaughn in terms of DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. While that doesn't quite make up for what would have been a hell of a trilogy had he stayed on for X3, at least Bryan Singer delivered another solid X-picture. I really hope he ramps things up for APOCALYPSE and judging by the work he's teased thus far, that certainly seems to be the case.

The next X-men adventure, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, hits theaters on May 27, 2016
