The Mission might actually be Impossible. Mission: Impossible 4 pushed back.

For anyone looking forward to seeing MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 4, you'll have to wait a bit longer.

M:I 4 was set to be released on May 27, 2011. Paramount has now officially announced that it's being pushed back to December 16, 2011.

This project has been taking awhile to put together. Apparently it's a "reboot" of sorts to the franchise with Cruise still attached as the star. JJ Abrams says that the next film has an insanely long outline with Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec (ALIAS) penning the script.

The film has been passed around like a hardcore round of Chinese Christmas. Everyone from Ruben Fleischer (ZOMBIELAND) to Edgar Wright (SHAUN OF THE DEAD) has wanted to take a stab at it, with good reason. The MISSION IMPOSSIBLE franchise that started back up in 1996 with Brian De Palma at the helm has been fairly solid. When it comes to doing a new installment there's plenty of ground to play around with. It's also fun: make the mission more impossible than the last.

Currently Brad Bird (THE INCREDIBLES) is in final negotiations to direct M:I 4.

Extra Tidbit: So, if they want to keep the MISSION IMPOSSIBLE franchise going who will they get to replace Cruise when he gets tuckered out?
