The second season of FX's Fargo gets a mysterious first teaser

After HBO's True Detective, my most anticipated returning series is FX's Fargo. Last year's run starring Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton was a surprise that was a just successor to the Coen Bros' film. The new season feature an all new cast in a story taking place prior to the events of FARGO the film and last year's show. But, like last season, FX has begun marketing the series with mysterious, short TV spots that highlight the natural setting of the show and the violence within the community.

The first spot has debuted featuring a single bird pecking at a tree while the sound of gunshots rings out in the distance. That is it. it is a short spot that has no context (yet) for what we will see on the show, but it is definitely an effective way to get viewers interested in what is coming next.

The all new “true crime” case of “Fargo’s” new chapter travels back to 1979 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Luverne, Minnesota, where a young State Police Officer Lou Solverson (Wilson), recently back from Vietnam, investigates a case involving a local crime gang and a major Mob syndicate. Helping him piece things together is his father-in-law, Sheriff Hank Larsson (Danson). The investigation will lead them to a colorful cast of characters that includes Karl Weathers (Offerman), the town lawyer of Luverne, Minnesota. A Korean War vet, Karl is a flowery drunk blessed with the gift of gab and the eloquence of a true con artist.

The new season of Fargo will star Ted Danson, Jean Smart, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Nick Offerman, Brad Garrett, Kieran Culkin, Jeffrey Donovan and Bruce Campbell. If that is not a cast worth seeing, I don't know what is. I just hope the tone stays the same as last season and they don't try to do anything to up the ante.

Fargo's second season debuts September on FX.
