The Walking Dead & Fear the Walking Dead will have their first crossover

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

THE WALKING DEAD ends with its eighth season this year, while the spinoff, FEAR THE WALKING DEAD, is still going strong in its third season. Fans have been wondering when the zombie apocalypse will force both shows to cross over, and yesterday at NYCC they got their answer when it was announced the shows will have their first crossover soon. Even still, comic creator Robert Kirkman is still being all sneaky about it.

Kirkman made the announcement at the beginning of the show's panel, hinting that it will be a small crossover, and not with all the characters from one show meeting all the characters from the other to swap zombie killing tips:

There is one character that is going to go from one show, that I will not name, to another show, that I will not name. This is a huge event in the world of The Walking Dead.

Once the crowd was properly fired up a new clip from the season 8 premiere of TWD was unveiled, hinting at a lot of references to the first season. You can check it out below!

I'm sure fans were expecting more than one character to go from one show to another, but this makes more sense than if a bunch characters from FTWD went to TWD, which is about to kick off its final season. There's no time to even begin to set up how that would play into this final story. But my guess is that we could see TWD end with one character migrating over to the next show, and continue on in FTWD. Perhaps this will be Carl, who I can see becoming much like his father and continue to live among the zombies into his adulthood. But there are so many characters in both shows that it could go any direction. In fact, and this is true, there are a greater number of possible match-ups in this scenario than there are stars in the sky. Neil DeGrasse Tyson said so.

THE WALKING DEAD premieres October 22.
