Timecrimes director Nacho Vigalondo deals with an alien invasion

If you haven’t seen Nacho Vigalondo’s Spanish-language thriller TIMECRIMES, you should track it down pronto — it’s a brilliant little time-twister about a guy trying to unravel a mystery involving a beautiful naked woman and a pink-bandaged stranger.

If you have seen it, you might be interested in what Vigalondo is up to next, and Twitch has scratched that itch. Vigalondo is working on a sci-fi story simply called EXTRATERRESTRIAL.

The project is described as “small” and an “anti-Spielberg take on an alien invasion”. They say the story is told “from the perspective of a trio of young people in an apartment who realize that the city has been evacuated thanks to the large UFO hovering just miles away. As much a romantic comedy as a science fiction picture this one will be light on the effects and heavy on character interaction. “

Vigalondo has already proven he can tell a fascinating sci-fi story with a minimum of flash, so this is one to keep an eye on. He’s also working on an action-comedy called GANGLAND, about videogame designers making a game set in the criminal underworld, where they inadvertently find themselves in real life.
