Tom Cruise eyes sci-fi project Our Name Is Adam while Jack Reacher gets a new poster

Tom Cruise is no stranger in a strange land when it comes to the world of sci-fi storytelling, and he may be looking to continue that successful relationship with a possible starring role in OUR NAME IS ADAM.  While the plot is being kept under wraps, we do know that the script comes from T.S. Nowlin - Nowlin also has another sci-fi script titled AGENT 13 in the works with Rupert Wyatt (RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES) directing and Charlize Theron starring, so the Hollywood consensus seems to be that this screenwriter has got the sci-fi goods.

But that project is far in the future, and not just because it's sci-fi (if you know what I mean [Tom Cruise is hella busy]).  Speaking in more immediate terms: JACK REACHER.  From what I understand, after a very solid showing with the first trailer (seen above) people have managed to let go of some of their doubts about Cruise taking on the popular character.  Maybe he still doesn't physically fit or have quite the right energetic quality fans of the book series starring the Reacher were hoping for, but Cruise and writer/director Christopher McQuarrie have by all indications put together something engaging and affective and more than a bit brutal.

That being said, while this poster might just be trying to communicate exactly those qualities, I can't help but look at it and see a sad, simmering, grumpy post-Katie Holmes Tom Cruise.  He looks a bit like he's trying not to cry, and is tightening everything up in order to make sure that doesn't happen.  But who am I kidding - intense Tom Cruise expressions sell movies like hotcakes, so why mess with a proven formula?

JACK REACHER arrives on December 21st.  Cruise can be seen in sci-fi tales OBLIVION and ALL YOU NEED IS KILL on April 26th, 2013 and sometime in 2014, respectively.

Extra Tidbit: Originally titled ONE SHOT after the book, JACK REACHER received its title change because the studio wanted it to be anything BUT a one-shot. How are you feeling about that these days?
