Toni Collette, Merritt Wever & Kaitlyn Dever in Netflix Rape Drama

As Netflix continues to expand its reach and dabble in ways with which to present their original programming, it's been announced that Toni Collette, Merritt Wever and Kaitlyn Dever have signed on to star in the eight-episode limited series AN UNBELIEVABLE STORY OF RAPE. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning article by the Marshall Project and ProPublica, the mini is set to have Lisa Cholodenko direct and executive produce the first three episodes.

The series tells the true story of Marie, a teenager who was charged with lying about having been raped, and the two female detectives who followed a twisting path to arrive at the truth. The series is written by T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong, with aspects of the story being take from the This American Life radio episode, "Anatomy of Doubt."

Collette and Wever will step onto the mini-series as detectives who pool their mutual efforts to catch a possible serial rapist. For the moment, Netflix and producers CBS Television Studios are keeping the details of Dever's character from the public. Susannah Grant, Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, Cholodenko, Katie Couric, Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman will executive produce this potentially powerful drama of truth, lies, and exposure.
