Tony Cavalero to play Jack Black’s role in upcoming School of Rock TV show

Two months ago we got word that Nickelodeon had ordered a 13-episode first season of a School of Rock TV show. With the premise of the show following the same as the film, it was doubtful that Jack Black would return to rehash what he had done so well the first time around. Given what an integral role the character of Dewey Finn is for the show, the casting had to be a careful one. It looks like they've found someone everyone on the production team (including Richard Linklater) is happy with, and that would be comedian Tony Cavalero.

Tony Cavalero had this to say:

I am so honored to be part of the rad legacy that is School of Rock. Jack Black is one of my biggest comedy influences and I am ready to shred!

The show will be written by Jim and Steve Armogida (Crash & Bernstein, My Family), with the original SCHOOL OF ROCK director, Richard Linklater, as well as SCHOOL OF ROCK producer Scott Rudin, on board to executive produce. I'm not inherently against the idea of a School of Rock TV show, but both the writers and Tony Cavalero have to really bring it.

School of Rock will air on Nickelodeon sometime in 2015.
