Travolta plays baseball?

Even though he's currently shooting a film called BASIC right now, John Travolta is apparently looking for next picture, and MR. 3000 might just be the one. The baseball movie is about a retired professional ballplayer who returns to the game, seven years after retiring, when three of his base hits are deemed illegal, sinking him below the 3,000 hit mark. Callie Khouri, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of THELMA AND LOUISE (and pretty much nothing since!), is in negotiations to direct the film (she made her directorial debut in the upcoming THE DIVINE SECRETS OF THE YA-YA SISTERHOOD).

The film is apparently fast-tracked to start shooting this summer, so we'll have to wait and see what happens on that front. Interestingly enough, Travolta's current flick BASIC, is director John McTiernan's follow-up to the abysmal ROLLERBALL. It's nice to see the guy getting back to work quickly after that disaster. That film's got quite the cast already set with Sam Jackson reuniting with his PULP FICTION mate, as well as Giovanni Ribisi, Andy Garcia, Taye Diggs, Harry Connick Jr, Connie Nielsen, Tyrese and more.
