Former “Lost” star Michelle Rodriguez and stage actor Stephen Lang have signed on to join the cast of James Cameron’s upcoming AVATAR. Rodriguez will play an ex-Marine pilot on the planet of Pandora while Lang will play a Marine colonel sent to Pandora to take control of the troops there. The two join the already cast Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Wes Studi and CCH Pounder. Says Cameron of Rodriguez: “Michelle Rodriguez is someone I’ve wanted to work with since I saw ‘Girlfight’ seven years ago.” As for Lang, he auditioned for ALIENS 20 years ago and came close to winning a part in that film and Cameron has been looking for a part for him ever since. He will finish his one-man Broadway show “Beyond Glory” on August 19th and then head off to work on AVATAR. Cameron and his team are currently working on the animation and pre-production before live-action work begins filming in New Zealand in October. AVATAR, which will be presented in a new digital 3-D format, will hit theaters on May 22, 2009.
