Vin Diesel kicks off filming for Bloodshot with new video message to fans

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

A very sleepy Vin Diesel uploaded a new video to his personal Instagram account on Monday, announcing that filming on the upcoming adaptation of BLOODSHOT has officially begun. In the video, Diesel shares some heartfelt words about what an honor it is to be a part of the film, and how despite being up at such an ungodly hour of the morning, he feels blessed to act as the herald of Valiant Comics' push for the big screen. Eventually joining Diesel in the clip is BLOODSHOT director Dave Wilson, who appears equally as pumped to get the cameras rolling.

Based on the Valiant Comics character and series, BLOODSHOT centers on Ray Garrison a.k.a. Bloodshot (Diesel), a mortally wounded soldier who is resurrected with cutting-edge nanotechnology and tasked with rounding up super-powered outcasts known as Harbingers. With his memory wiped clean, Garrison struggles to recall his former life while coming to grips with the reality of him being turned into a living weapon.

Who are the Harbingers, you ask? Also known as psiots, Harbingers are a race of evolved superhumans with psionic powers in the Valiant Universe. The world's most powerful Harbinger is Toyo Harada, a Japanese businessman who runs the mysterious Harbinger Foundation. The Foundation recruits and trains Harbingers as part of Harada's private army (via Valiant Wiki) If you want, think of the psiots as Valiant's version of mutants, and the Harbingers as an elseworlds X-Men.

BLOODSHOT stars Vin Diesel as Ray Garrison a.k.a. Bloodshot, Eiza Gonzalez (ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, BABY DRIVER), Sam Heughan (OUTLANDER), Talulah Riley (INCEPTION, TV's WESTWORLD), Alex Hernandez (Netflix's HEMLOCK GROVE), Toby Kebbell (DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES) and Michael Sheen (THE QUEEN, MIDNIGHT IN PARIS). BLOODSHOT is just one of several Valiant Comics properties currently being adapted for the big or small screen. For the moment, Sony is developing a movie version of FAITH, based on the superhero Faith Herbert, a geektastic teen with the powers of flight and telekinesis. Back in March of 2017, it was reported that an adaptation of Valaint's ARCHER & ARMSTRONG is also in development with ZOMBIELAND's Ruben Fleischer set to direct. Also, word has it that Joe and Anthony Russo, with the help of SPY's Mike Larocca are executive producing an adaptation of Valiant's QUANTUM AND WOODY series. In other words, get ready for a whole lot more than Marvel and DC films to be occupying the big screen real soon.

BLOODSHOT has set a release date of February 21, 2020.
