Wackness trailer

I’ve heard nothing but great things about THE WACKNESS but either everyone who saw it was on some kind of psychotropic substance, or the guy who cut THIS trailer was. Unless I’m missing something, I can’t really find anything in it that makes me want to see it, save for super-cutie Olivia Thirlby (JUNO) and a sick piece of music. The film took home the Audience Award for Dramatic Film at Sundance, and also the award for Soundtrack I Would Most Like To Take Home And Make Sweet Love To.

THE WACKNESS (which, in spite of this trailer, I’m sure is great) is directed by Jonathan Levine (ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE) and centers upon a troubled high school student named Luke Shapiro (Josh Peck), a teenage pot dealer who forms a friendship with Dr. Jeffrey Squires (Ben Kingsley), a psychiatrist and kindred lost soul. The good doctor proposes Luke trade him weed for therapy sessions, the two begin to explore both New York City and their own depression. All of this is set against the back drop of a ton of sweet hip-hop that came out before the genre became blunts, bitches and money. Although often times, just bitches.
