Warner Bros. to pull Harry Potter DVDs from shelves after Christmas

If you interested in owning any of the HARRY POTTER films on DVD or Blu-ray, you might want to think about purchasing them in the next two months. On December 29th, Warner Bros. will stop shipping all POTTER DVDs, Blu-rays, box sets, limited editions, etc. to all stores.

It’s the old Disney “back in the vault” strategy where they attempt to drum up sales by making their home video title available for a limited time. Then they release titles from the non-existent vault and get people buying them all over again.

It’s unclear exactly how long the POTTER films will stay in the so-called vault but Disney traditionally leaves their films locked up for about 10 years before slowly beginning the re-release.

I’ll be curious to see if the vaulting also applies to any digital downloads or streaming on Netflix. One of the concepts behind Disney’s original vault was to help keep the film’s fresh for new generations but with the amount of options people have now to watch films, DVDs and Blu-rays are just one part of the equation.

So do you think you’re going to quickly snatch up the whole franchise before they disappear? Do you already own most of the discs?
