Wedding Crashers helmer David Dobkin to take on Hugh Hefner biopic

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

We’ve been hearing about a Hugh Hefner biopic and now it seems that the project has finally found a director.

WEDDING CRASHERS helmer David Dobkin has boarded the film about the Playboy magazine founder. Peter Morgan (FROST/NIXON, RUSH) will write the script. Variety is stating that now that Dobkin has been hired the flick will now gain some serious momentum.

When the film titled HEFNER was set up over at Universal actor like Robert Downey Jr. and Hugh Jackman were being eyed for the lead. Unfortunately, the studio never came to a good place creatively so then Warner Bros. took over. Word is that they are currently looking for similarly charming actors like Downey and Jackman.

The film will focus on Hefner who “founded Playboy magazine in 1953 and built the magazine into a media empire while cultivating a reputation as a swinging bachelor well into his ’80s.” Can’t wait to see who they pick for the role though I do like the idea of Downey Jr. taking it.
