What direction would Joss Whedon take Star Wars: Episode VII?

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Joss Whedon was once in the running to direct STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, so why not ask him what he would do with the series?

Most of the rumors surrounding the next episode have revolved around the return of original cast members: Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill. There’s also talk that the story could possibly follow the children of Luke, Han and Leia. Right now, all we have is a confirmation from George Lucas that the original members of the cast are already signed on. Will the film focus on them? Or will it have another focus?

When Digital Spy asked Whedon what he’d like to see in the next film, he said this:/p>

You know, I wouldn’t go back, I’d go forward. I would want to create characters that would resonate the way that they did.

And you know what? Maybe J.J. Abrams will. I agree that creating and building characters that had such a profound affect on filmgoers and pop culture is a key move. The best way to show respect towards something that is already treasured, in my opinion, is to build on that and make it a story that has a heart. Don’t try to remake what you’ve already seen.

Abrams did excellent with STAR TREK, so I’d say he has a fair chance of creating a film within the universe that people will really love and enjoy.
