Jersey Boys

Does Clint Eastwood just want to dance? THR is reporting that the news around Hollywood is that the legendary actor and director is interested in taking on the big-screen adaptation of the musical JERSEY BOYS. Jon Favreau had been attached to the film but in November Warner Bros. put JERSEY BOYS in turnaround and things have stalled since. This is still very much a rumor at this point and representatives for Eastwood (as well as Warner Bros. and the production company GK Films) would not confirm the negotiations.

Eastwood’s current musical project, a remake of A STAR IS BORN, has had its own share of problems getting off the ground due to casting issues and he may push back that film to take on JERSEY BOYS. There have been difficulties casting for JERSEY BOYS as well though: Singer Esperanza Spalding is up for a lead role but multiple actors have passed on the male lead role. Sean Penn is the latest name mentioned but at this point there’s no way he’s a lock for the part.

I’m not the biggest fan of musicals but I wouldn’t mind seeing one directed by Clint Eastwood. He doesn’t have a unique visual style when it comes to directing and it’ll be interesting to see how he handles a musical. Eastwood has made some damn good movies in different genres so if he does sign on to JERSEY GIRL I may have to check it out.

Plot:

An adaptation of the hit Broadway musical that tells the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and their meteoric rise from blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks to one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time.

JERSEY BOYS was original set to be released Christmas 2013 but that doesn’t seem too likely right now.
