Will Smith and Tom Holland to lead Spies In Disguise animated film

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Unlikely pairs are always a recipe for fun when it comes to bombastic spy-related films. Over the years, we've watched Hollywood cast some pretty spectacular magic with parings like Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and Harry (Colin Firth) in the KINGSMAN series, Lorraine (Charlize Theron) and Delphine (Sofia Boutella) of ATOMIC BLONDE, all the way back to Emmett Fitz-Hume (Chevy Chase) and Austin Millbarge (Dan Aykroyd) in John Landis' SPIES LIKE US. It's all about chemistry. That, and some radical new spy tech to set your imagination into overdrive. After all, who doesn't love spy-related gadgetry?

Today, Fox Animation, Chernin Entertainment and Blue Sky Studios have announced that actors Will Smith (MEN IN BLACK, BRIGHT) and Tom Holland (SPIDERMAN: HOMECOMING) will lend their voices to the two lead characters of the upcoming animated film SPIES IN DISGUISE.

Directed by Nick Bruno & Troy Quane, SPIES IN DISGUISE is a Fox Animation production, with Blue Sky Studios and Chernin Entertainment. The project is based on Pigeon: Impossible, an original animated short film by Lucas Martell.

SPIES IN DISGUISE is a buddy comedy set in the high octane globe-trotting world of international espionage. Will Smith (Men in Black) voices Lance Sterling, the world's most awesome spy. Cool, charming and super-skilled, saving the world is his occupation. And nobody does it better. Almost the exact opposite of Lance is Walter, voiced by Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming). Walter is a great mind but perhaps not a great socializer. What he lacks in social skills though, he makes up for in smarts and invention: Walter is the scientific genius who invents the gadgets Lance uses on his missions. But when events take an unexpected turn, Walter and Lance suddenly have to rely on each other in a whole new way. And if this odd couple can't learn to work as a team, the whole world is in peril.

Mmm, provided that this film is a success, I can already smell a franchise cookin' on the old Fox Animation stove top. Obviously, the combined studios are looking to cast a wide net by signing the often family-friendly Will Smith with up-and-comer Tom Holland. For real, I think I can actually hear the money printing machines warming up in preparation for this film's release. I personally love the idea of having a fresh animated spy thriller up on the big screen, and can't wait to check out what this movie is all about once a trailer hits the net.
