Will Smith turned down Captain Hook role before it was offered to Jude Law

Before Jude Law was chosen to play Captain Hook in Disney's latest live-action adventure, PETER PAN & WENDY, it turns out that another actor who is already a part of the live-action Disney family was approached to live a pirates life.

Coming to us from Justin Kroll at "Variety", Will Smith was approached to take the role but he ultimately turned the film down. The little tidbit was revealed via a tweet on Kroll's Twitter page:

I'm surprised that Smith was approached for this role because he already plays a prominent role in another live-action Disney film that is set to get the sequel treatment. Despite early misgivings about Smith playing the Genie in last year's ALADDIN, the film became a fan favorite and it went on to become the most successful film of Smith's career with a worldwide gross of over $1 billion. Smith was also offered the role of Holt Farrier in last year's live-action remake of DUMBO but he turned that down as well and the part ultimately went to Colin Farrell. As for turning down Captain Hook. maybe Smith is just happy being associated with one live-action Disney franchise.

PETER PAN & WENDY is set to be directed by PETE DRAGON'S David Lowery and he'll be taking on co-writing duties with Toby Holbrooks. The film stars Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson as Peter Pan and Wendy respectively with Jude Law in talks to play the villainous Captain Hook. Law will join other actors to take on the role in a live-action project that includes Dustin Hoffman, Jason Isaacs, and Garrett Hedlund.

Do YOU think Will Smith would've been a good choice for Captain Hook?
