Will the lead role in Transformers 4 be played by a woman?

TRANSFORMERS has not exactly been the bastion of quality acting, but it has not been short on attractive actresses. Megan Fox, before her face turned to rubber, brought an amazing sexiness to the first two films in the franchise, despite it disappearing any time she spoke. For the third film, Michael Bay brought in Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley who has a nice body but is not an actress.

But it looks like with the supposed reinvention of the series in the upcoming TRANSFORMERS 4, producers are looking to flip the dynamic at the front of the cast. There is a casting notice floating around with the following description: The new female lead that they are looking for is a high school senior and her boyfriend a Texas racing driver.

Now it says female lead, so it could just be phrasing and this whole article could be based on semantics, but it sounds like they are looking for the Sam Witwicky character to be replaced by an actress and her boyfriend would be the piece of arm candy.

This strikes me as a cheap attempt to try and make the series look fresh. Unless they cast a strong lead actress in the role, this could just be another crappy explosion filled blockbuster. Can Emma Stone be in too many franchises? I think not.

TRANSFORMERS 4 opens June 27, 2014.
