Woody Allen & Soon-YI fire back at Allen V. Farrow documentary

HBO's Allen V. Farrow documentary has everyone talking and that includes the polarizing director at the center of it. The documentary only aired last night and now director Woody Allen and his wife Soon-Yi Previn have released a statement that says the piece is riddled with falsehoods.

'These documentarians had no interest in the truth. Instead, they spent years surreptitiously collaborating with the Farrows and their enablers to put together a hatchet job riddled with falsehoods. Woody and Soon-Yi were approached less than two months ago and given only a matter of days ‘to respond.’ Of course, they declined to do so. As has been known for decades, these allegations are categorically false. Multiple agencies investigated them at the time and found that, whatever Dylan Farrow may have been led to believe, absolutely no abuse had ever taken place. It is sadly unsurprising that the network to air this is HBO – which has a standing production deal and business relationship with Ronan Farrow. While this shoddy hit piece may gain attention, it does not change the facts."

Despite the fact that Ronan Farrow inked a three year deal at HBO back in 2018, he's merely part of the subject behind the documentary and did not make any creative contributions to the material. Filmmakers Amy Ziering and Kirby Dick claim that they reached out to the necessary parties involved as they made the documentary but heard nothing back. Their goal was to tell Dylan and Mia Farrow’s accounts of the story, which included Dylan’s molestation claims against Woody Allen. Considering that this documentary has already gotten this impassioned response from Allen after airing only one episode of the four-part documentary that will continue to air the next three weeks, it's safe to sat that he'll likely have more to say as more is revealed in the weeks ahead. 

Allen V. Farrow explores allegations by Dylan Farrow that her father, filmmaker Woody Allen, sexually molested her in 1992 when she was 7. Allen has repeatedly denied the claims. Cancel culture is very much prevalent in 2021 and it would be easy to say that this documentary does just that but it's actually more of a re-examining of charges of wrongdoing that wants the viewer to make their own assertions about what may have happened. These are all allegations that we have already heard but it's successful at shifting public opinion and yielding accountability for celebrities who had skirted punishment.
