X2 screenwriters back for X-Men: Apocalypse, plus new images of Mystique and Bishop from X-Men: DOFP

Simon Kinberg wrote the script for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST on his own, but according to a tweet from Bryan Singer, he'll have some help with the screenplay for the follow-up, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. The director tweeted that he had a late night story session with Kinberg, and screenwriters Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty.

Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty have both previously worked with Bryan Singer. The two co-wrote X2: X-MEN UNITED, as well as Singer's SUPERMAN RETURNS. Michael Dougherty also wrote and directed the excellent 2007 horror comedy TRICK 'R TREAT. Many consider X2: X-MEN UNITED to be the best X-Men film to date, and having Harris and Dougherty back for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is a good thing in my opinion. Simon Kinberg is going to be a little busy working on THE FANTASTIC FOUR reboot and building Fox's comic book movie universe, so it makes sense to hire a couple of additional writers to help with the project.

In other X-Men movie news, the French site Les Toiles Heroiques has two new images from X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, featuring Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique and Omar Sy's Bishop, the later with a BFG, and I don't mean the titular character from the Roald Dahl book.

Oh, and since you guys enjoyed yesterday's picture of Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen so much…

Merry Christmas.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST will be in theaters on May 23, 2014, and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is set to be released on May 27, 2016.
