Last Updated on July 30, 2021

After clubbing comic book fans over the head with news of the cancellation of Noah Hawley's LEGION, FX is hoping to get back on everyone's good graces by announcing that Y, the long-gestating television project based on Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra's legendary Vertigo comic book series, has officially been granted a series order. Set to star in the post-apocalyptic science fiction comic adaptation is UNFAITHFUL and MAN OF STEEL alumna Diane Lane, who'll be joined by Barry Keoghan (THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER), Imogen Poots (I KILL GIANTS), Lashana Lynch (CAPTAIN MARVEL), Juliana Canfield (SUCCESSION), Martin Ireland (SNEAKY PETE) and Amber Tamblyn (THE GRUDGE 2) for the highly-anticipated series.

Co-created, written and executive produced by Michael Green (AMERICAN GODS, LOGAN) and Aïda Mashaka Croal (Marvel's LUKE CAGE), Y is set for an FX premiere in 2020. When the show kicks off, Green and Croal – who will also serve as co-showrruners for the series – will aim to tell the story of Yorick Brown, the last man left alive after a cataclysmic event has erased every male off the face of the planet. As the story progresses, Y is expected to tell a harrwoing and poignant tale that explores the concepts of gender, race, class and survival.

In addition to announcing the series order for Y, FX also shared a First Look image from the series, which depicts Yorick in disguise, as he walks among the ruins of a world devoid of men while carrying his pet Capuchin monkey, Ampersand. You can see the pic for yourself below:

“Y: The Last Man is a towering achievement among graphic novel storytelling and it’s been rewarding to work with this outstanding team,” said Grad. Michael Green and Aïda Mashaka Croal have partnered with Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson to deliver a stunning new expression of this fascinating and timely story. Melina Matsoukas, who directed the pilot, did an incredible job bringing it to life with Diane Lane and this stellar cast.”

Developing and executive producing the series for FX are Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force and and Brian K. Vaughan. Meanwhile, INSECURE and MASTER OF NONE director Melina Matsoukas will helm the pilot episode in addition to executive producing.
